Another tumble dryer successfully repaired today in Benfleet, local, not much traveling, and from a loyal customer.

When a tumble dryer drum stops turning, many people assume the appliance has reached the end of its life. In reality, faults such as a snapped drive belt or worn mechanical components can often be repaired, restoring the appliance to full working order for a fraction of the cost of replacement.

In this repair, I worked on a Bosch WTW86560 tumble dryer where the drive belt had snapped, preventing the drum from turning. After a thorough inspection, I found wear within the drive system and replaced the drive belt, rear bearing and pulley wheel to ensure reliable operation.

While the machine was dismantled, I also carried out a full internal clean, removing a substantial build-up of lint and debris from inside the appliance.

Below, you'll find photos of the repair process, the condition of the old components, the lint build-up discovered during the repair, the new parts fitted, and the completed repair.

The customer reported that the tumble dryer drum had stopped turning. After diagnosing the fault, I found the drive belt had snapped and the rear drum bearing and pulley wheel were also showing signs of wear. To ensure a reliable repair, all worn components were replaced before the machine was reassembled and tested.

While the dryer was stripped down, I also removed a large amount of built-up lint from inside the cabinet. This not only helps improve performance but can also reduce unnecessary strain on components and improve airflow.

More importantly preventing a fire hazard

A customer recently contacted me regarding their Bosch WTW86560 tumble dryer after the drum stopped turning. Following a full inspection, I found that the drive belt had snapped, preventing the drum from rotating correctly. As part of the repair, I also replaced the rear bearing and pulley wheel to ensure the drive system was restored to reliable working order.

While carrying out the repair, I discovered a significant build-up of lint inside the appliance. Many people are unaware that excessive lint accumulation can become a potential fire hazard. Lint is highly combustible, and when it builds up around internal components, motors and airflow channels, it can restrict ventilation and increase operating temperatures.

One of the best ways to prevent this is by cleaning the lint filter regularly and checking it for signs of damage. If the door filter becomes torn, split or develops holes, lint can bypass the filter and accumulate inside the dryer where it shouldn't be. Over time, this can affect performance, increase wear on components and create unnecessary safety risks.

After replacing the failed belt, fitting the new rear bearing and pulley wheel, and carrying out a thorough internal clean, the tumble dryer was reassembled, tested and returned to full working order. Below are photos showing the repair process, the condition of the original components and the amount of lint removed from inside the machine.
