Washing machines have been my specialism from the very beginning
long before I started Benfleet Appliance Repairs, I was buying, reconditioning and selling machines, learning exactly how they work and what goes wrong.

I work on washing machines every week, which means I’ve seen almost every fault going. When I arrive, I can usually diagnose the problem quickly and give you a straight answer about whether it’s worth repairing.

I provide washing machine repairs across Benfleet, Canvey Island, Rayleigh, Basildon, Southend and surrounding Essex areas. Whether your machine won't spin, won't drain or has stopped working completely, I offer honest advice and practical repairs.
Help Improve Washing Machine Repairs in Your Area

I’m collecting a small amount of information about washing machine repairs to better understand the makes, common faults, and parts that are most often needed locally.

By completing this quick form, you’ll help me make sure I carry the right spare parts more efficiently — focusing on items that are more likely to be needed rather than keeping expensive parts sitting in storage for years with little chance of being used.

The form includes:
-
The make of your washing machine
-
Any spare parts used during the repair
-
Whether the repair was successful
-
Your local area (for example: Benfleet, Basildon, Southend)

The information helps me improve my service, reduce waiting times, and make sure I’m better prepared when attending repairs.

It only takes a minute to complete, and your input is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for helping improve local appliance repair services.
Common Washing Machine Faults I Repair
Won’t spin or spins slowly
One of the most common calls I get. Usually caused by a worn carbon brush, faulty motor, or a broken belt. In most cases it’s a straightforward fix.
Won’t drain
Often a blocked pump filter or a failed drain pump. If your machine is leaving water in the drum at the end of a cycle, this is usually why.
Leaking water
Could be a worn door seal, a loose hose connection, or a faulty pump. Worth getting checked quickly before it causes floor damage.
Loud banging or rattling
Typically worn drum bearings or a failed shock absorber. Bearings in particular get worse over time if left — worth sorting sooner rather than later.
Won’t start or no power
Could be as simple as a faulty door interlock or a more involved control board issue. I’ll diagnose it properly before recommending any repair.
Stops mid-cycle
Often a thermal overload cutting in, a blocked filter causing the pump to struggle, or a door latch fault. Usually fixable quickly.
Error codes showing
Most modern machines flag faults with a code. Bring me the code and the make and model — I can often tell you what it means before I even arrive.
Drum not turning
Broken drive belt or motor fault. Common on machines over five years old and usually a cost-effective repair
MAINTENANCE TIPS
How to Keep Your Washing Machine Running Longer
Clean the filter every 3 months

The pump filter catches fluff, coins and debris. A blocked filter puts strain on the pump and can cause draining problems. It’s usually behind a small panel at the bottom front of the machine — worth a quick clean regularly.
